Mercy Day
The journey home with the original letters of Venerable Catherine McAuley began with a Solemn Ritual of Transfer during the Institute of the Americas’ Chapter in Laredo, Texas on 25th June 2005.
The Board of Directors of Mercy International Association (MIA) held its annual meeting from May 9-16 in Handsworth, Birmingham, England. The leaders of the nine Mercy congregations throughout the world gathered at St. Mary’s Convent.
On 15 August we will celebrate our country’s patronal feast, the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and we will commemorate the 60th anniversary of VJ day, the end of World War II.
This is a response by Mercy women and their colleagues particularly in England, Ireland, Scotland and Africa and other regions across the world to the Gospel challenge to act with justice in our contemporary world.
Sister Mary Waskowiak (Burlingame) - has been elected President of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas.
On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the Convent of Mercy in Downpatrick, the community felt that it was an appropriate time to have the cincture referred to Mercy International Centre, Baggot Street, Dublin.
St Mary’s Convent holds a unique place in the history of the Sisters of Mercy in Great Britain. It is a listed building, associated with the famous architect Pugin and it is the last Convent founded by Catherine McAuley, in the year of her death 1841.
The Sisters of Mercy of the Americas have been saying Catherine’s Thirty Days Prayer in preparation for the opening of the Institute Chapter on Monday, June 20.
