Mercy Day
After long protracted negotiations, Kenya has once again returned to relative peace and calm. We still have about 350,000 internally displaced persons in the country, to be sorted out. Family members of some of our Sisters are among them.
At the General Meeting of the Academy on 15 March 2008, Carmel McCarthy (South Central Province) was among the twenty Irish scholars elected to membership this year. She was formally inducted into Academy membership at a special ceremony on 16 May 2008.
At their May 2008 annual meetings Members of Mercy International Association commissioned the new Board of Directors who begin the task of implementing the MIA Vision.
Adult and Youth Mercy Associates will gather in Birmingham on 4th October 2008 for a Conference to promote the Cause for Beatification of Venerable Catherine McAuley.
Sisters of Mercy joined the many Religious who gathered for the Mass Lobby against Climate Change at the Houses of Parliament, Westminster. Organised by CAFOD we were well briefed before we marched on the Houses of Parliament.

Sister Bernie Roche of the Institute of Our Lady of Mercy GB received the award on behalf of her team, for setting up an integrated approach to Women's Mental health needs.

The Mercy Family Health Service in Cerro Candela was officially opened and blessed on Sunday 30 March, 2008. Sisters of Mercy from Ireland, Peru, USA and Australia who are currently working on mission in Peru helped celebrate the special occasion.
