Mercy Day
Just a month before Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda struck Tacloban City and nearby areas in Eastern Visayas of Central Philippines, Corazon Basadre rsm started her remote preparation for Final Profession of Vows at the Religious Sisters of Mercy Formation House in Tacloban City, Philippines. Sr. Cora happened to be commissioned as Principal/School Head of the Assumption Academy in Tanauan, Leyte. Due to her scheduled preparation for profession, she was temporarily replaced as Principal by Louis Marie Monfort rsm.
Super Typhoon Haiyan came on 8 November 2013, and brought so much devastation to Tacloban, Tanauan and other nearby areas, causing loss of thousands of lives, homes and properties for livelihood. Due to the said devastation, Sr. Cora expressed her willingness to postpone her final profession of vows, but Divine Providence intervened. Kind and generous support through Mercy International Association/MIC, Sisters of Mercy from St. Maries of the Isle, Cork, Ireland (from where the Tacloban Sisters were founded) and friends of the Sisters of Mercy came to the rescue to make restoration possible to some extent.
However, Tacloban convent is not fully ready for the special event in the vocation/life of Sr. Cora so we have decided to hold this very special event in Mambajao, Camiguin Island, Philippines (hometown of Sr. Cora), with the pleasure of the Basadre family, relatives and friends on 22 April, 2014. An additional feature that would make it really special is the gathering of the two (2) groups of Mercies: our Philippine group and the Filipino Sisters of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas on 21-23 April, 2014 in the beautiful island of Camiguin, Philippines. Praise the Lord!
