Vacancy for MIA Assistant Director Global Action.

Mercy International Association is an international network of twelve congregations of Sisters of Mercy, their Associates and Partners in Ministry who share the vision and heritage of Catherine McAuley. The mission of the Association, which is characterised by action for justice and compassion, is located in diverse places and cultures throughout the world.

Applicants are invited for the position of MIA Assistant Director Global Action which will become vacant in March 2014.

The Assistant Director heads up MIA's global action programme. This programme focuses particularly on ecological sustainability and opposing human trafficking. It supports work in these areas at grassroots levels, particularly by developing networking and collaboration. Building on local grassroots stories of Mercy work throughout the world, it develops policy and advocacy positions to influence change through the national and international decision making bodies, primarily the EU and the United Nations, and it forms intercongregational and relevant NGO alliances to promote issues of common concern. The position is open to lay and religious and is based in Dublin, Ireland. It is therefore subject to Irish Employment legislation in relation to residency and work permits. The successful candidate will have experience in working on global issues, preferably in the areas of ecological sustainability and opposing human trafficking. A capacity for conducting this work within the context of Theological reflection and Mercy vision is essential. Orientation and transition process for the successful candidate will commence on February 3rd, 2014.
