Mercy Day
Mercy Sisters in Australia are very active in ACRATH, the Australian Catholic Religious Against Trafficking in Humans.
ACRATH are endorsed by Catholic Religious Australia – the peak body for 180 religious orders in Australia, representing 8000 religious sisters, brothers and priests.
ACRATH is committed to working together towards the elimination of human trafficking in Australia, the Pacific and Internationally. ACRATH is involved in lobbying decision makers in Australia on the issue of human trafficking.
This is a report of a visit ACRATH made to over 100 Members of Australia's Parliament and their advisers to voice their concerns for people who are trafficked. Sisters of Mercy, Sr Carole McDonald, Sr Therese Power and Sr Anne Tormey were part of this advocacy visit. It is an example of how Mercy Sisters work with other organisations to advocate at national level.
