MIJN Call for Prayer/Fasting for Peace in the Middle East 24 April 2002

Last week, we received an invitation from Pax Christi International to participate is a solidarity chain of prayer and light for peace in the Middle East. During the week of 8-15 April, supporters were asked to light two candles, one for the Palestinians and one for the Israelis, and place them in a window as a sign of solidarity. During this period an ecumenical delegation from Pax Christi International and Fellowship of Reconciliation will be visiting Palestine/Israel at the invitation of the Christian churches of Jerusalem.

Pax Christi International also invited groups to select one or more days to pray especially for a just resolution to the crisis in the Middle East. In response to that request, the MIJN Focal Point Persons would like to suggest that Wednesday 24 April 2002, be designated as a day of prayer/fasting throughout the Mercy World for peace in the Middle East.

At the September 2001 International Mercy Justice Conference in South Africa, conference participants made a decision to light a candle and join together in prayer on the 24th of each month in an act of solidarity. May we draw strength from knowing that together we are calling on the power of the spirit to bring peace to the land where Jesus himself once walked.
