The Sr Catherine McAuley Perpetual Cup

Editor: Since 1896, the Feis Ceoil Association has promoted excellence in the learning and performance of music across all ages, levels and disciplines. This year's Dublin Feis Ceoil (Festival of Music) competition concluded on 7 April.

Since 2010 Mercy International Centre has presented the Sr Catherine McAuley Perpetual Cup to the highest marked performer at the Feis from the combined scores of the Advanced Organ, Senior Organ and Stanford Prize competitions, a prestigious competition which attracts competitors of a high calibre.

This year's winner was Shane McLoughlin, a Leaving Certificate student at St Finian's College Mullingar which is home to the Schola Cantorum, providing a specialised music education for boys and girls in parallel with their normal secondary school studies.

Mercy International Centre is home to an organ built in 1844 by William Telford, a leading nineteenth century organ builder. The Organ in the chapel is a very precious part of the heritage of Mercy International Centre. A report on the restoration and re-dedication of the Telford organ at MIC can be read here
