Mercy Day
It is with a mixture of sadness and joy that we ask you to join us in praying for the repose of the soul of Sister Mary Jacque Benner, RSM.
Sister Mary Jacque died this morning (August 10th) after a long illness. She is the oldest of 8 children. Her sister Bobbie Benner Beaty graduated from MHS in 1978.
She was the art teacher at Mercy High School, Baltimore, from 1972-1976. In the mid 1980s she returned to Mercy and located her studio here for almost 10 years. During that time she mentored several of our art students. In addition she taught the Mercy Summer Art Camp from 1991 until 1998.
Sister Mary Jacque was very innovative in her art as many of you know. She was well known throughout the Sisters of Mercy communities around the world.
Her posters on the spiritual and corporal works of Mercy are found in Mercy convents and schools worldwide.
If you go to "google" (or Yahoo) and type her name, you will find a number of web sites with references to her. Some of them she created herself to display some of her more recent art work.
Her wake and funeral Liturgy are being held at The Villa, 6806 Bellona Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21239 410-377-2450
The wake is Thursday, August 12th: 2:00-5:00 pm, and 7:00 pm with the wake service at 7:30 pm.
Her funeral Liturgy is Friday, August 13th at 11:00 am.
For those of you out of town, if you go to www.baltimoresun.com, you will be able to read her obits when they appear.
Please keep us all in your prayers.
Sister Mary Anne Smith, RSM
