If we are to honour our history
Implement our vision
And live out our mission,
We must echo the tenderness of Christ Jesus
The courage of Catherine McAuley
And the dreams of those who have gone before us.
We must gather the young
Welcome the stranger
And teach as Jesus did.
-Catherine McAuley
On Mercy Day, 2015, we will be celebrating with the staff at St. Mary Academy—Bay View in Riverside, Rhode Island.
Founded in 1874, this school continues the tradition of Catherine McAuley in its education of girls and young
women from pre-school through grade 12.
Recently a graduate of the Academy, Anea Garcia, Miss Rhode Island USA, finished third in the Miss USA pageant in Louisiana. As part of the question portion of the contest, Anea was asked which woman should be the first woman portrayed on the US $10 bill. Her immediate response was Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy and of Garcia’s high school.
Congratulations to Anea for her third place showing in the Miss America contest and for introducing Catherine McAuley to millions of TV viewers in USA.
Greetings to our Sisters worldwide and our Mercy friends in Ireland.

Greetings from Mount St. Mary Academy
Happy Mercy Day to our Mercy Family! You have filled our hearts with love and gratitude. We are so grateful for the work of Catherine McAuley, who set the Circle of Mercy in motion 188 years ago today, and for all Sisters who continue to inspire us to be “shining lamps, giving light to all around us.”
Continuing Catherine McAuley’s vision that “no work of charity can be more productive of good to society or more conducive to the happiness of the poor than the careful instruction of women. . . .” Mount St. Mary Academy’s 535 young women, along with faculty and staff members, will celebrate Mercy Day by spending a day in service to the community. Sophomores will be raking leaves and cleaning trails at a city park, freshmen will be decorating cookies for local nursing home residents, and juniors and seniors will be serving at food agencies, homeless shelters, schools and hospitals before everyone returns to school to share a special meal in solidarity with the poor. We will end our Mercy Day with a beautiful Mass, where three Sisters of Mercy from the Mount St. Mary Convent (Srs Jolitta Konecny rsm; Ann Hardcastle rsm; and Lee Ann McNally rsm) will renew their vows.

Mercy Partners would like to wish our friends and colleagues in the Mercy world abundant blessings for Mercy Day 2015.
We will be celebrating under the old Poinciana tree on Mercy ground in Nudgee, with a cup of tea and cake for all.
We will remember Catherine McAuley who was committed to bringing mercy more deeply into the realities of everyday life. We will also celebrate the hundreds of thousands of people (religious and lay) who, inspired by Catherine’s vision, have brought the transforming power of mercy into our world.
We give thanks for our connections through Mercy Partners and ask for God’s blessing on all Mercy ministries. May we all be “shining lamps, giving light to all around us” (Catherine McAuley, Retreat Instructions).

Greetings and warm wishes to all in the Mercy Family from the staff and Board members of Fraynework Multimedia in Melbourne, Australia. As we join the worldwide circle of joy and celebration for Mercy Day, we remember it also as the day Catherine opened the House of Mercy on Baggot Street, Dublin 188 years ago. We pray that nations around the globe may also open their hearts in Mercy to the thousands of vulnerable and displaced people who have nowhere to rest their heads.
