MIA Prayer Intention for the Coming Week: 10th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina

Saturday, 29 August marks the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina which resulted in more than 1800 deaths in the storm across its path of destruction, an estimated $108 billion in total damages and incalculable grief and suffering among its victims.

Mercy ministries in parts of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama (Sisters of Mercy of the Americas South Central Community) were destroyed. All of our Sisters escaped harm, but some lost everything, including their homes.

As attention returns this week to New Orleans on Katrina's ten year anniversary, and memories of loss and grief are sharply re-awakened, we mourn with those who continue to suffer, give thanks for those who gave comfort and aid and pray for light in times of doubt and darkness.
