Mercy 5 Formation Programme

On Monday, 2 June, 14 teachers from the 5 Mercy High Schools across Sydney (OLMC Burraneer, OLMC Parramatta, Mercy Catholic College Chatswood, Catherine McAuley Westmead and Mont Sant’ Angelo College North Sydney) gathered at Stormanston House North Sydney to participate in the second day of the four day Mercy 5 Staff Formation Programme.

The aim of the day was to deepen participants' understanding of ‘what charism means and to focus particularly on the Mercy Charism'. A panel of guest speakers - Claude Mostowic msc, Libby Rogerson ibvm and Suzette Clarke rsc – reflected with the participants on their understanding of their particular charism. They provided a wonderful array of stories for reflection. Each charism was unique but were all grounded in the same centre. Jennie Ryan rsm shared her understanding of the Mercy Charism and how it challenges us today.

The afternoon session saw Sr. Miriam Grech and Sr. Veronica Earls engaged in a lively conversation about the history of the Sisters of Mercy, North Sydney and Parramatta, and the historical links between the two Congregations. The day finished with each of the school groups conversing with a Mercy Sister who had, in past years, been engaged in ministry in their schools. The Sisters described what they hoped their legacy would be for each of the schools.
