The Latest Issue of The MAST Journal (Americas)

The latest issue (Vol. 21, No. 3) of The MAST Journal was recently published. Editor Eloise Rosenblatt, RSM reports that the issue is focused on “The Spirituality of Aging,” paying attention to the original inspiration for building hospitals and creating systems.

• Anita Iddings rsm wrote a personal account of moving into old age as a conscious choice.
• Sharon Kerrigan rsm surveyed the biblical accounts of women counted as prophetesses—Deborah, Hulda, Anna and Elizabeth
• Jane Thibault, OCDS .describes her research effort to show that sisters who lived a long time also had a transformative spiritual experience like Theresa of Avila.
• Dr. Kathleen Carey interviewed 12 Mercy Sisters 85 years or older in assisted living in Chicago
• Katherine Doyle rsm reflects on the prophetic aspect of aging.
• Patricia Talone rsm an ethicist for the Catholic Health Association, counsels attention to the individual life story of each ailing person to give the best care possible.
• Margaret “Peggy” Thompson of Syracuse University reviews Sister Mary Jeremy Daigler’s book Incompatible with God’s Design: A History of the Women’s Ordination Movement in the U.S. Roman Catholic Church.

As usual the issue provides discussion questions for those who want to use the essays for communal reflection with Sisters, Associates or Partners in ministry.
