Mercy Day Greetings

The great feast that unites the Mercy world is Mercy Day. Happy Mercy Day!

Its origin dates back to September 24th. 1827 when the House on Baggot Street opened as a school for the education of poor young girls and as a residence for homeless girls and women.

Greetings from the faculty and students at Red Bank Catholic High School in New Jersey, USA.

We are a school that welcomed the Sisters of Mercy over one-hundred years ago. We celebrate Mercy Day with all of those who aspire to the teachings of Catherine and take pride in all of the works done in her name. May this be the year that Catherine is proclaimed blessed so others may hear her story and join us in bringing mercy to a world much in need.

Warmest and most cordial greetings to all “Mercy Folk” from the High Plains of West Texas, USA!

We, the Mercy Presence in Lubbock, Texas wish all a blessed day as we celebrate together this special day – in the present and in our history! Four Mercy Associates ( Janie Delgado, Alice Huey, Barbara Wille, and Sabrina Robbins) will renew their covenants for three more years, and Sister Lale will renew her vows; then we will share a special meal and visit. But, because of work, we will do this on the day before, on Sunday, Sept. 23, when we have the leisure to do so.

Affectionately yours in Mercy,
Sister M. Lalemant Pelikan, rsm (South Central Regional Community Of Sisters of Mercy of the Americas
(the only vowed member in some 250 mile area)

As each of us tries to be Mercy in so many different ways and to spread Mercy in a world where it is no needed, may we also draw strength from the simplest most common rituals like enjoying the comfortable cup of tea.

We celebrated our Mercy Day early this year with a beautiful mass, followed by a community day where students and staff dressed in the theme “M for Mercy”. Money raised on the day went to support Mamre House, a project of the Sisters of Mercy Parramatta Congregation, working alongside Sudanese refugee families.
