Mercy Day
On Saturday, March 3, Sisters of Mercy, family and friends from across Australia, East Timor and Papua New Guinea gathered in Melbourne to celebrate the perpetual profession of Helen Glasheen rsm. This was an historic occasion as Helen is the first woman to make her perpetual commitment within the Institute of Sisters of Mercy of Australia and Papua New Guinea.
Archbishop Denis Hart spoke of the generous commitment Helen had made in many areas throughout her life, assuring her of the deep gratitude of the church and its people for her decision to make perpetual profession as a Sister of Mercy.
Participants in the moving liturgy included Helen’s family and other members of the initial formation programme, who have journeyed with her on her path to perpetual profession.
Helen will now continue her ministry with the Mercy Connect programme sponsored by Mercy Works and in Palliative Pastoral Care.
