Mercy Day
As Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, we have made a commitment to the gospel call to nonviolence and to deepening our consciousness of our interdependence with all of creation. We believe, therefore, that the 10th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks compels us to examine more fully what it means to help build peace amongst all peoples.
We remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001, witnessing the attacks and destruction caused by suicide bombers and sharing in the anguish experienced by the many who lost loved ones. This 10th anniversary is a time for prayer and reflection, as the grief still pierces at levels deep. It also is a time for those of us in the United States to reflect on how our country responded to the attacks of that day and to examine what lessons may be learned.
