Mercy International Archives Inventory

The reasons for embarking on the inventory include the fact that there is general lack of coordinated information about which archives currently possess what original documents. With Mercy archives in many countries in the process of being re-located, some original documents (e.g., letters of Catherine McAuley) that are known to have once existed are now, apparently, difficult to locate. In addition the earliest original documents, dating from the 1820s to the 1860s, are now 150-180 years old, and the continued identification and preservation of them is a matter of primary concern.

The action plan for the Inventory is the work of the Mercy International Association Archives Committee which was set up in 2001 to provide oversight for the artefacts and archival materials held at Mercy International Centre. Committee members are Brenda Dolphin rsm and Marianne Cosgrave (Ireland), Marion McCarthy rsm (Britain), Mary Sullivan rsm (Americas), Agnes Gleeson rsm - to be replaced by Maureen McGarrigle rsm - and Rosie Carroll rsm, (MIC).
