Spaniard's Bay, Newfoundland

June 6, 2002: Over one hundred people attended the public launch of a 116 page manual (8.5 x 11) intended to introduce the reader to self-care concepts and practices.

Funded by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and researched, compiled and published by the Conception Bay North AIDS Interest Group this self-care manual Opening Doors to Self Care: Living with HIV/AIDS is attractive, informative, inspiring, practical and comprehensive.

While focusing on HIV/AIDS, most of the text can be helpful to anyone at any time. Besides material dealing with medical facts, sexuality, emotional well-being, treatment, nutrition, spirituality, women, negotiating the system, caregiving, support services, there are recipes for stuffed moose steak and rabbit chop suey; also, you will find directions for taking a healing bath. We are especially proud that one of our community, Sr. Rosaline Hynes, has been the project manager over the past few years and has now seen the final product released to the public.

The manual is mostly geared to Newfoundland and Labrador but has many useful aspects for any part of the world.
