Mercy International Association Assistant Directors Positions’

Mercy International Association is an international network of nine congregations of Sisters of Mercy
who share the vision and heritage of Catherine McAuley. The mission of the Association, which is
characterised by action for justice and compassion, is located in diverse places and cultures throughout
the world. The richness of this diversity means that we are often close to the struggles of people who
are in need, especially women and children.

Mercy International Association (MIA) is currently recruiting four Assistant Directors, who along with the
Executive Director of MIA will have responsibility for the leadership, integration, development and
management of the Association on a worldwide basis by continuing the work of the foundress Catherine
McAuley in a Mercy response to global poverty and injustice.

The four person team will work with the Executive Director in the following four areas:

Heritage and Spirituality

The Assistant Director Heritage and Spirituality will develop and implement programmes that promote
the living, sharing and supporting of the Mercy Story. Other responsibilities will include the promotion
of the heritage; the preservation of the archives and the provision of hospitality.

Global Action

The Assistant Director Global Action will develop and implement a plan that enfleshes the MIA Vision of
responding to issues of global poverty.

Culture and Communication

The Assistant Director Culture and Communication will take a leadership role in actively promoting
global communication and will provide technological expertise in support of the living, telling and
supporting of the Mercy story.

Administration and Finance

The Assistant Director Administration and Finance will be responsible for the administration of the
financial affairs of Mercy International Association (MIA), the administration of Mercy International
Centre and for ensuring that sources of funding are identified and co-ordinated to implement the vision
of MIA.

The successful candidates will be based in Dublin and will report to the Executive Director of MIA . The
functions or areas of expertise of the individual team members are viewed as highly integrative. The
organisational environment is worldwide and diversified and a key competence of the Team members is
to work across cultures in an inclusive, diplomatic and effective manner. Other key qualities required
include excellent team skills, an understanding of the need for a spiritual and theological underpinning
of the work, and highly developed communication skills, including fluency in English. Personal qualities
of goal orientation, and a compassionate and hospitable manner are essential requirements
