In May 2004, the Mercy International Association (MIA) created a new Mercy International Research Commission (MIRC) and appointed its first members for four-year terms. The MIRC members are Sisters Elizabeth Davis (Newfoundland), Mary Lyons (Ireland), Madeline Sophie McGrath (Australia), Mary Noel Menezes (Americas/Guyana), Mary Sullivan (Americas), and Elaine Wainwright (Australia); Anne Hannon (Ireland), Vice Postulator of the Cause of Canonization, serves as an ex-officio member; and Mary Angela Bolster (Ireland) is an Honorary Member.

The MIA has charged the MIRC "to encourage the ongoing scholarly treatment of the archival and other research resources of the Sisters of Mercy worldwide; and to nurture the production of well researched analyses of our resources." The MIA has also appointed several Research Consultants to the Commission whose names will be published when the list is completed.

Mary Sullivan will convene the first meeting of the Commission members on January 10 and 11, 2005, in Bermondsey, London. The MIRC will welcome suggestions about its future work, care of Mary Sullivan, 275 Parsells Ave., Rochester, NY 14609, USA. The Commission will be especially interested in hearing of research works-in-progress where it might be able to offer some advice and encouragement.
