Opening “Doors of Mercy” around the Northeast Community, Americas

Sisters of Mercy, associates, companions and friends recently opened and walked through specially marked “Doors of Mercy” throughout the Northeast Community to celebrate the Year of Mercy as designated by Pope Francis. The Jubilee Year of Mercy began on December 8, 2015, and concludes on November 20, 2016. The door openings symbolize the many ways we are called to open our hearts to give and receive God’s mercy.

Holy Door prayer

Each time we cross the threshold
of This Holy Door, our God,
May we be reminded that we are indeed called
to the ministry of Mercy.
We ask for the grace to live lives
worthy of this call -
to be signs, in active and practical ways,
of the tender love with which you
embrace us all.
In this Holy Year strengthen our resolve
to work for the transformation of our world
to a place where all know themselves
to be blessed and welcomed
as you welcome us
to this holy place and time.
