Opening the Door of Mercy: Mercy High Middletown Connecticut, USA

In what felt like a spring day rather than the middle of December in Connecticut, the students, faculty and staff of Mercy High School Middletown joined together outside the Main Office for the Holy Door ritual as the start of Pope Francis’s proclamation that this year be the Jubilee Year of Mercy.

Mary A. McCarthy rsm, President of Mercy High, welcomed everyone and asked all to join together in a prayer, the same ritual that was celebrated at Baggot Street in Dublin, Ireland, at the Sisters of Mercy International Centre, the first House of the Sisters of Mercy. The opening prayer read there is the prayer that Mercy Middletown echoed for the 'Opening of Local Doors of Mercy'.
