Mercy Response to the Philippines Disaster - Twelve Months On

Warm greetings from victims of Haiyan, the strongest typhoon that ever hit land!

We all presume that you have heard some stories about this horrible storm that swept our place in the Philippines (8 November 2013). The fierce winds toppled down trees and buildings. Giant waves washed ashore a good number of ships that happened to be caught at sea but quite near land. So many homes and an estimate of about more than 10,000 lives were lost with some bodies still missing.

A year or 12 months from then, traces of that devastation can still be felt particularly among the poor people who not only lost their homes and their loved ones but their means of livelihood as well.

We, the Sisters of Mercy, received so many blessings to help us recover. The help that we got also enabled us to help in some specific ways those around us to restore their homes and means of livelihood.

Indeed, we have so much to thank God for. First and foremost is the blessings of resilience among our people which faith has established. Two of our Sisters lost a mother and a sister-in-law respectively as well as other relatives and friends. All these seem to have gathered strength to move on. Moving up has become a challenge like that of "a phoenix coming out from the ashes".

Praise the Lord for his great mercy and compassion manifested through kind and generous support from friends and benefactors.
