Trafficked Women and Girls in Their Own Words: #16Days16Stories

Announcements: November 06, 2016

Mercy Global Action at the United Nations in partnership with the Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd is pleased to announce our participation in the global campaign 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence, as a way of educating and empowering others to counteract gender-based violence, beginning 25 November this year.

Our campaign 'Trafficked Women and Girls in Their Own Words: #16Days16Stories'  focuses on the experience of formerly trafficked women and girls who give testimony to gender discrimination and marginalization from childhood into early adulthood. A series of 16 videos based on the publication ‘I Have a Voice: Trafficked women- In their Own words’ by Angela Reed rsm and Marietta Latonio, has been developed with one be launched each day throughout the campaign. These videos bring forth the stories of women who have been trafficked, as well as questions for reflection, points to ponder, and steps for action. These are  tools to freedom for these women and  tools of action for the world.

Set aside 10 minutes each day to follow us over the course of the 16 days (25 November - 10 December) as, using video, we reflect upon the voices and learnings of those advocating for justice against human trafficking for sexual exploitation.

Videos and other resources to partake in the campaign will be found on the human trafficking microsite on mercyworld.org as well as on Twitter @mercyworldwide and @gsijp from 23 November.
