This year Mercy Investment Services filed resolutions on trafficking with four companies. Three were trucking firms; Con-Way Inc., J.B. Hunt Transportation Services, Landstar System, and one new hotel system MGM Resorts International.
All four were successfully withdrawn when the companies agreed to develop a human rights policy to reflect the trafficking issue, to have training available for staff and to publicize the issue internally and externally. Follow up is needed with all of these companies in order to assure the policy is actually approved at the board level and transparent for all to see, training is implemented and their external publications actually have articles.
As we developed this work we found another US based organization with good materials in the form of Truckers against Trafficking. Two of the companies we worked with are now listed as members of TAT but more important the resources found on the site might be applicable to other programs. The other group is the in the government here and called the Blue Campaign. Although there are some issues folks have with them, they do have a lot of contacts and their resources are available that are free. One is aimed at the faith community.
Lastly we updated our website’s resources on trafficking Take a look at the one on Emma and the wonderful prayer resource provided by Sr. Meta Reid and the Western Province, Ireland.
