October Report from USA

Primary foci of ministry are education, awareness raising and legislative advocacy. Essential to achieving the foci are collaboration, networking and coalition-building.


Specific things in which I have been engaged are:

  • Presenting to high school and university students, health care personnel and a wide variety of groups and organizations
  • Participating in local coalition meetings; collaborating in the formation of county human trafficking coalition
  • Corresponding via mail and telephone with persons working on human trafficking and/or interested in learning more or becoming involved
  • Maintaining current, large e-list for education and information sharing
  • Participating in the US Catholic Sisters Against Human Trafficking (USCSAHT) coalition advocacy work group and chairing the educational resources working group (visit www.sistersagainsttrafficking.org to learn more and to see the resources available there)
  • Sponsoring and hosting an exhibit for USCSAHT at the National Catholic Education Association’s Annual Conference (8,000 attendees) and participated in panel session for 150 educators
  • Hosting an exhibit for USCSAHT at the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) Annual Assembly (800+ participants)
  • Collaborating with local human trafficking survivor in educational and networking efforts
  • Writing an article (due in November) for Viva! Mercy, a few blogs for Mercy site and an Advent prayer for Community use
  • Submitted a large grant proposal request to Catholic Health Initiative’s Mission and Ministry Fund for violence prevention which was not funded this year. We had two years of prior funding.
