Performance of Diablo
Much of my energy and ministry in the fall was focussed on hosting
Spanner in the Works theatre company from Northern Ireland to come to Newfoundland to perform the play Diablo-the Spanish word meaning devil. The play focused on human trafficking in all its forms. The Newfoundland and Labrador Coalition Against Human Trafficking Inc. in collaboration with our Congregation and the Presentation Sisters hosted the event. The theatre group were here for 10 days and targetted various groups through their 8 performances. The play was very graphic and raw but we were pleased to have hosted the event as the play highlighted the plight of victims in a way that helped raise awareness of this modern day form of slavery. The closing night we held a reception after the performance complete with Newfoundland songs, dancing, food and "A Screech In" where the group were made honorary Newfoundlanders. The trip was so beneficial and the feedback concerning the play was very affirming
Education Sessions:
The Coalition has been busy providing training for law enforcement officers as new rules regarding border entry have been put in place.
Lunches and Learning:
Some members of our Coalition are presently visiting our high schools during the students' lunch break to provide education around the area of human trafficking.
Launch of a New Logo and Website:
We are presently working on a new logo and website for our Coalition. These will be launched on January 11, 2016. We invited graphic design students from one of our colleges to provide submissions of a possible logo. Eight presentations were made to our committee. Each was unique and creative and expressed the focus of our Coalition. I will forward the logo to you after the launch.
