A report from the Ecology Director for the Northeast Community, Mary Pendergast rsm

July 8, 2014

The Cosmic story has been an allurement for many years now…I have been a Montessori teacher of 3-6 year olds and caught glimpses of it in Maria Montessori’s life and writings, got introduced with Matthew Fox and Creation Spirituality, lived and prayed at a Christian Meditation Center where I learned about the land and growing and the night sky…every experience opened my heart to the interconnection.

I had the opportunity to study with Miriam MacGillis at Genesis Farm for a few summers and that informed my work with young children in urban schools greatly. She is able to translate Thomas Berry to mere mortals! Around 2000 I began singing with Carolyn McDade and I guess that would be my advanced degree in cosmology, where the music and the poetry meet and transform …

I have always been involved with “Earth” concerns in the community, and when I retired from teaching I was named Ecology Director for the Northeast Community. In that capacity I do some educating and have worked deeply with “Awakening the Dreamer/Changing the Dream“ from the Pachamama Alliance. I just completed the next program Up To Us Game Changer Intensive and several of us in the states are working on how to bring that program into the community and ministries.

We have two Centers in the Northeast USA, New Dawn Earth Center and Mercy Farm Eco Spiritual Center. You can read about them at www.mercyecology.org . Both are on facebook and also on twitter @ MercyEcology They occupy a little of my time as well since we just received our non profit status as Mercy Ecology, Inc. Last year at this time I delivered my first kid, “Angel.”

The degradation of Earth, water, soil, air is of major concern. Maintaining hope is another. I am glad to be a part of this group and pleased that I “know” many of you already. Mary
