Sustainability activities in New Jersey

July 8, 2014

Currently I am teaching in the Biology Department of Georgian Court University. We have a special interest in sustainability here and continue to implement projects which highlight renewable energy, water conservation, and engage students in local and global advocacy for the rights of Earth. We partner with a local NGO, Bus for Progress, and attend many demonstrations to speak out against Fracking and the Keystone Pipeline, and in support of the protection of the Barnegat Bay and the NJ Pinelands.

I developed a service learning project around attending these events for which students can earn credit. We have recently revised our General Education curriculum and 2 required courses will dip heavily into the Universe Story/Big History well for their content and meaning.

In the Fall I will be offering a cosmology course on line for our temporary professed Sisters.

I continue to be a member of Religious on Water, (ROW), an ecology group begun over 15 years ago by a dozen different communities of women religious to address water issues.
