2015 Plan for the work of Cosmology/Ecojustice in Newfoundland

Goal: To promote awareness of a deeper consciousness of ourselves as members of one community of life with an ecological understanding of the spirituality flowing from the sacredness of all creation in order to create a more sustainable future.
Objective: Inspired and supported by the vision of Mercy Global Action and networking with other
groups and organizations we focus mainly on reaching the hearts and minds of adults and
children for the care of all creation.
Actions:
A. Educational Presentations:
- February 19, 2015 Public Session: “Call of Earth and Call of the Poor are One”, prepared for the Catholic Women’s League and the public by Mary Tee rsm
- March11, 2015 Session: “A Functional Cosmology for a Transformed World”, being prepared for the Canadian Federation of University Women by Mary Tee rsm
- June 10, 2015 Session: “Educating for a Sustainable Way of Life”, being prepared for Canadian Catholic School Trustees Association by Mary Tee rsm
- May, 2015 Conference: “Living with limits, living well! Hints for neighbours on an endangered planet” being prepared for Sisters of Mercy and the public by our Congregational Advocacy Wisdom Circle.

B. Canadian Religious Conference JPIC (Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation)
- June 2-4, 2015 National Conference: “All is One: Weaving a Single Cloth for Justice” prepared for Canadian Religious by National Office. Presenter: Carol Zinn, ssj C. Local workshops:
- Book study and review of other pertinent materials to further awareness of issues related to the environment and practical ways to respond
- Study groups on Pope Francis’ upcoming encyclical on the environment
- Through formal gatherings and discussion highlight issues around the Sustainable Development Goals and other environmental issues, e.g. Water.
- Portable Trunk workshops for educators and other groups on the Cosmic Walk to identify oneself as the larger ecological self to be prepared with Centre Programs Committee
- Study of KAIROS Ethical Reflection Discussion Paper on Fracking
D. Projects: (Ongoing)
- Fair Trade, an alternative Free Trade (Sponsored Ten Thousand Villages Fair Trade Sale)
- Summer Environmental Day Camp for children, three weeks during the summer and sustained with three extra sessions during the winter
- Vegetable Garden, an educational tool and an opportunity to work with soil for physical and spiritual nourishment.
E. Advocacy: (Fracking and other issues)
- Working with local groups to either put a stop to fracking or to sustain a moratorium for an indefinite period of time
- Work with local groups to monitor the Newfoundland External Review Panel on Fracking
- Work with national groups, e.g. CRC-JPIC Atlantic region of Canada on the issue of fracking
- Ongoing letter-writing and petitioning regarding environmental justice issues.
