Catherine McAuley, foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, used her inheritance in service of the needs of her time. Today, Sisters of Mercy, through Mercy International Association, use their resources to respond to issues of global poverty demonstrated in the massive displacement of persons worldwide...This vision keeps alive the founding spirit of Catherine among peoples of the world most in need of God's compassion and mercy.

Mercy Day Greetings to All! (MIA)

As this Mercy Day greeting circulates today around the world via e-News,150 guests are gathering in Catherine’s House to celebrate the feast.

Today's gathering is a microcosm of our global Mercy family: Sisters, Associates, Partners in Ministry, Friends of Mercy joining us from places near at hand like Ireland and Great Britain and as far flung as Newfoundland, United States, Australia and Africa. We are very aware that, thanks to modern technology, thousands of you are united with us in the 45 countries where Mercy ministers and we will be united with you in spirit and prayer, particularly as we celebrate Eucharist. Your greetings posted on our website have been joyfully read and appreciated.

We are marking this Mercy Day by unveiling a portrait painted by the renowned Mercy artist and contemporary of Catherine, Clare Augustine Moore. We believe this portrait depicts Catherine McAuley.

The story of how this portrait was recently identified is a very interesting one...

'Do Trees Communicate?'
University of British Columbia Foresty Professor Suzanne Simard is a forest ecologist whose research focuses on how organisms living in soil – like fungi – help trees establish and grow. In 1997, Simard was part of a team of researchers that discovered that trees were connected to one another through an underground web of mycorrhizal fungi. She also helped identify something called a hub tree, or “Mother Tree.” In this video made last year, Simard shows that all trees in a forest ecosystem are interconnected...
