Catherine McAuley, foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, used her inheritance in service of the needs of her time. Today, Sisters of Mercy, through Mercy International Association, use their resources to respond to issues of global poverty demonstrated in the massive displacement of persons worldwide...This vision keeps alive the founding spirit of Catherine among peoples of the world most in need of God's compassion and mercy.

Final Vow Programme – Come home to Catherine (MIA)
Editor: They came from Kenya, the Philippines, Peru and the US, eight Sisters of Mercy, all eager to spend time at Catherine's House, participants in a special program for those new to, or about to take, their final vows, each gifted with the opportunity to spend a week reflecting on Catherine's life and ministry - and their own.
Come home to Catherine offers participants an opportunity to pray with Catherine in her places and spaces, and to walk in her footsteps through the city of Dublin . The programme is offered each year to enable Sisters of Mercy to reflect on and be with Catherine.
Anne Reid and Áine Barrins rsm who facilitated the Final Vow programme with the assistance of Evelyn Horan, rsm who translated the programme for non-English speaking Sisters, will offer Come Home to Catherine from 28 July to 3 August, 2013. Details can be accessed here (PDF).
A report on the Final Vow programme is linked to this item. The report includes 4 recordings of the Suscipe, sung by the participants from each of the four countries.

Mercy International Association Intention for the Coming Week (MIA)
MIA joins with the Sisters of Mercy of Great Britain (Federation, Institute, Union) in expressing our deep sadness at the news of the brutal and senseless deadly attack on Drummer Lee Rigby, which has shocked the British community and all who have heard of the manner of his death.
The Sisters of Mercy of the Institute of Our Lady of Mercy and of the Union of Our Lady of Mercy Great Britain invite readers to post a prayer or reflection on their prayer spaces.
Read the reflection on the Institute website which asks us all to 'let this dreadful act of terrorism move us to pray for peace in our world'.

Mercy Takes a Global Look at Hydraulic Fracturing (MGA)
Representatives from Mercy congregations throughout the world met by phone to share their concerns about the natural gas extraction process known as hydraulic fracturing, or fracking. The call was seen as a first step in developing joint strategies and using United Nations processes to address environmental, health and governmental transparency issues. Participants on the call talked about the impacts of fracking in communities in Argentina, Australia, Canada and the United States; participants from Ireland and the United Kingdom described proposed fracking operations. Concerns ranged from unchallenged pro-fracking propaganda and fast-tracking of environmental reviews to the damage to fishing and tourism industries and the lack of a public health response. At the next meeting of this group participants will look at how they can work together nationally and internationally to stop fracking or to minimise its harmful impact where it is already in operation.
A full report on the meeting is attached here
Betty Lacey intern at MIA is completing her research on Mercy involvement with communities affected by the extractive industries and this will be available later this year.

Catherine's Canonisation Cause: Prayer Requests (MIA)
'Holiness is found in a common day to day life. A saint is someone who offers so little resistance to the presence and the power of God, that God is able to pour himself freely into the person’s heart and fill it with Love. That Love flows out through the holy person’s hands out to all those who have need in the world – the poor, the lonely, the sick, the homeless, the helpless, all who have need of God’s Love whatever shape or form that need takes...'

How Mercy Healthcare is Helping in Oklahoma (Americas)
Mercy physicians and nurses are onsite in Moore. We are now a partner agency with the American Red Cross and the Mercy mobile clinic is referring patients from the Red Cross. In addition, they asked us to provide them with at least 30 RNs, LPNs, MDs or EMTs...

In a situation like the tornado in Moore, Oklahoma, with a digital tracking system in place, medical workers could easily identify injured tornado patients with implanted medical devices that require special attention. Currently, no such tracking system exists in health care. This is a significant story because 5 major health systems are coming together to do the right thing for patients.
Here’s the link to the story about “Five Health Care Systems Join Forces to Reduce Medical Errors” by developing global tracking system for implanted medical devices.
Here’s a link to the story with a photo of Mercy doc leading the Big 5.
