Catherine McAuley, foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, used her inheritance in service of the needs of her time. Today, Sisters of Mercy, through Mercy International Association, use their resources to respond to issues of global poverty demonstrated in the massive displacement of persons worldwide...This vision keeps alive the founding spirit of Catherine among peoples of the world most in need of God's compassion and mercy.

Entering into Lent (Americas/The Congregation)
Editor: We are reminded on the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas website that "Once again, we have made that turn on the liturgical calendar into Lent ". Rich questions are posed to us:
"We’ve traveled this 40-day journey so many times; what will make this year unique?
What will we notice that we never noticed before?
Will we hear a familiar refrain in a new way?
What insight will change our thinking or an attitude?
The Congregation, in the Lenten reflection on their site, respond in asking us each to pause and consider the following primary questions before setting out on our journey:
"What do I need for the journey?
Where am I going on the journey?"
We are then led slowly inward to where we are invited to fast from what holds us back or holds us down.
"As we follow this Lenten path this year," the Institute concludes, 'let each of us pay special attention to the signs of our times. Let us listen again and with open hearts to the words and the echoes of words that may sound different this time. Let us find the courage to step across a line, an opinion, an attitude that has held us too long in its clutches. Let us ask what our loving God of Mercy, of Wisdom and Mystery is inviting us to this year?
How are we willing to respond?"

OLMC Parramatta launches 2013 Project Compassion campaign for Diocese (Parramatta Congregation)
Our Lady of Mercy College (OLMC) Parramatta hosted the launch of Caritas Australia’s 2013 Project Compassion campaign for the Parramatta Diocese on Tuesday 12 February.
Held on Shrove Tuesday the launch saw OLMC students hear from two Caritas speakers; Annabelle Dulhuntly, African Latin America Group Leader at Caritas Australia and the Secretary General of Caritas Sri Lanka, Father George Sigamoney...
OLMC Parramatta’s Director of Mission Claire Thomas says the College’s foundations are based on a group of women who believed in justice, compassion and solidarity with the materially poor and economically marginalised; these are strongly in tune with Caritas’ aims...

No event of particular significance is recorded in the "Mercy Through the Years Calendar" as having taken place on this day. We know, however, that the Works of Mercy continued to be carried out and so we remember on this day Catherine and all our sisters, associates and co-workers who have given their lives in service to others

Morning and Evening Prayer
In 1998, the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas produced Morning and Evening Prayer of the Sisters of Mercy, basing text on the English translation of the psalms and canticles taken from the Liturgical Psalter: Text for Study and Comment, 1994, International Committee on English in the Liturgy, Inc.
At a leadership development program of Sisters of Mercy in Panama City, Panama, in November 2011, the sisters expressed a desire for an electronic version of their prayer book. Recognizing that many hands make light work, they decided to work collaboratively over several months to accomplish the task of digitizing their daily prayer book. The web site is not meant to replace the Morning and Evening Prayer book; rather, it is a supplement for use during travel or at times when a sister or associate cannot access her own book.
