Catherine McAuley, foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, used her inheritance in service of the needs of her time. Today, Sisters of Mercy, through Mercy International Association, use their resources to respond to issues of global poverty demonstrated in the massive displacement of persons worldwide...This vision keeps alive the founding spirit of Catherine among peoples of the world most in need of God's compassion and mercy.

Mercy E-News Celebrates its 500th edition! (MIA)
Editor: "Celebrating the 500th edition of Mercy eNews offers us the opportunity to look back on almost 12 years of a journey,' writes Mary Reynolds in an article tracing the origins of the MIA website and the creation of the Mercy e-newsletter, first published on 13 August 2001 and for 48 weeks of each year since.
From the beginning of the Institute the letters of Catherine and other Mercy writings have been a source of union and strength among Sisters and have become central to Mercy life.
In the messages received from readers around the Mercy world to mark this occasion, we hear how the telling and sharing of the Mercy story through this communal newsletter opens them to the needs of the world and strengthens them for mission.
May the rich selection of Mercy stories each week continue to inspire, to nourish and to animate us all.

Our Lenten Journey (The Congregation)
Editor: Next Wednesday, 13 February, is Ash Wednesday. As we prepare to enter into the Season of Lent, Carmel McCarthy rsm offers us insight into the Lukan text from the first Sunday's Gospel.
'Is God really with us? Each year on the first Sunday of Lent the liturgy presents us with one or other of the gospel texts narrating the testing of Jesus. In the synoptics the testing narrative is situated at the beginning of Jesus’ ministry...
As we prepare to begin our Lenten journey 2013 perhaps we also might carry with us a threefold question:
• What constitutes our mercy identity?
• In whom is it rooted?
• How can the word of God nourish and illuminate our journey?'

Jefferson Regional Medical Center Now Part of Mercy (Americas)
Mercy, the sixth largest hospital system in the U.S., has acquired Jefferson Regional Medical Center, the largest hospital in Jefferson County, Missouri.
Jefferson Regional is now Mercy’s third hospital in eastern Missouri, joining Mercy hospitals in St. Louis and Washington, and the 32nd hospital across Mercy’s four-state area...
While Feb. 1 marks Jefferson Regional’s first day as part of Mercy, other changes will occur over time. One of the most visible changes will be the renaming of the hospital as Mercy Hospital Jefferson, which will occur sometime this spring.

One Billion Rising: 'It's like a feminist tsunami'
The statistics are startling: one in three women on the planet will be raped or beaten in her lifetime. Ending violence against women is as important as ending poverty, or Aids or global warming says the organiser of One Billion Rising, Eve Ensler.
There'll be Flashmobs in Mogadishu, marches in Bute and mass rallies in India. What action will you take on February 14?
