Mercy International Association Intention for the Coming Week (MIA)
Today is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. At the Millennium Summit, world leaders committed themselves by the year 2015 to cutting by half the number of people living in extreme poverty - people whose income is less than one dollar a day.
Mercy International Association supports that commitment and recognises that action on behalf of justice and participation in the transformation of the world are constructive dimensions of preaching the Gospel.

Editor: The theme for 2012 is Ending the Violence of Extreme Poverty: Promoting Empowerment and Building Peace. Resources for use on this day can be accessed here. A Prayer Service provided by the USG/UISG Secretariat in multiple languages can be accessed here.

Mercy International begins Digitizing Archival Resources (MIA)
Mercy International Association holds precious resources in our archival collection, including original artwork by Clare Augustine Moore, original letters written by and to Catherine McAuley, hand lettered Rule and Constitutions by Cecilia Marmion, and other manuscripts and letters by early Mercy women surrounding Catherine.
In an effort to preserve and protect these resources, and to make these treasures more accessible throughout the Mercy world, MIA has begun the process of digitizing archival resources...
This past week, the professional photographer David Knight spent three days photographing page-by-page views of each of Clare Augustine Moore’s manuscripts and practice books, Cecilia Marmion’s hand lettered Rule and Constitutions, and the first pages of Catherine McAuley’s prayer books in which her handwritten prayers are found. He returns in mid-November to continue this process, during which time all of the original letters written by Catherine included in MIA’s collection will be photographed...

Mercy Sweats the Small Stuff (Americas)
CENTRAL, U.S. – Taking marching orders from none other than the patients themselves, Mercy is rethinking the health care map. With more than $600 million of Mercy construction projects in the works across four states, the goal is to create a simple, straightforward experience for patients.
“If you look at how health care facilities have historically been designed, they are like giant mazes that patients have to tunnel through when they feel their very worst,” said Cindy Beckham, Mercy’s executive director of building design. “It creates a great deal of anxiety for patients. If there is any time in someone’s life when they need the process to be simple, the people to be compassionate and the place to be as calming as possible, it’s when you seek health care.”..

Vatican 2 - An Event of Grace (Aotearoa New Zealand)
Sisters of Mercy from Australia and New Zealand gathered with others in their hospitals, other facilities, houses, parish and educational centres to view and listen to the 7th e-Conference from the Broken Bay Institute, Australia on Wednesday 10 October. The theme was Vatican 2 and its impact on our lives.
Together with BBI, the Australian Bishops’ Conference Commission for Mission and Faith Formation supported the day’s events. Bishop Michael Putney (Townsville) Sr Maryanne Confoy rsc, Jill Gowdie and Paul Power were the speakers, each revealing the effect Vatican 2 has had on their lives. Some of us will remember those days, the upheavals, excitement and profound changes introduced. Bishop Michael certainly brought them to mind as did Sr Maryanne from both a religious life stance and from a general outlook of the times - and since.
We are grateful for the continuing high quality e-Conferences which BBI make available to our countries and beyond.

Message from the Institute Justice Team (Americas)
Dear Mercy Advocates for Persons who are Poor:
In recognition of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, Oct. 17, the Institute Justice Team has developed an easy way for you to contact President Obama and Governor Romney and ask them to talk about poverty during the rest of this election season.
Please consider adding your own concerns about poverty and about persons who are poor with whom you live, worship or minister. Such individualized comments are often taken more seriously.
Also, please consider sending a similar message to candidates for Congress and for state and local offices.
You may send a message to President Obama and Governor Romney here.
Thank you for your continued advocacy for persons who are poor,

The Mercy Sisters Have Developed Strong Roots at Mercy College (ISMAPNG)
Bamboo might have seemed, for a while at least, a strange Mercy Day topic for Fr Vinh Dong to give his homily on at the 40th Anniversary Mercy Day Mass at Mercy College in Koondoola, Western Australia. What could a bamboo plant have to do with either the Sisters of Mercy or Mercy College?
The more Fr Vinh Dong spoke though the more his audience understood the symbolism of these strange plants. Firstly they have great cultural importance in the Vietnam that he had fled as a young refugee and secondly he connected them cleverly to the work of the Sisters of Mercy and his time as a student of Mercy College after his arrival in Western Australia...

"A hard drive is a computer component that holds data. Every computer needs at least one hard drive to store its operating system, programs and user information. This drive usually is internal, or built into the computer, but as computer systems have evolved and different needs, threats and circumstances have arisen, external hard drives have become more popular. External hard drives usually are used in addition to internal hard drives in order to store more data..."
