Catherine McAuley, foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, used her inheritance in service of the needs of her time. Today, Sisters of Mercy, through Mercy International Association, use their resources to respond to issues of global poverty demonstrated in the massive displacement of persons worldwide...This vision keeps alive the founding spirit of Catherine among peoples of the world most in need of God's compassion and mercy.

Feature

MIA to set up a Development/Fundraising Programme (MIA)

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the official foundation of Mercy International Association. In October 1992, the Memorandum and Articles of the Association were signed and the Convent of Mercy, Baggot St. passed from the Dublin Congregation to Mercy International Association by Deed of Transfer. Much has happened in those twenty years – a refurbished center opened in 1994, which since then has welcomed pilgrims and visitors from around the world. Over the years the activity of Mercy International Association has expanded to include response to issues of global poverty, enhanced communications, diversity of programmes and increased provision of accommodation and conference facilities.

The ministry of Mercy International Association, while primarily to Sisters, Associates and Friends of Mercy is increasingly serving Lay Leadership of Mercy Ministries and Youth. Until now, much of the ongoing funding of MIA came from the Mercy Congregations and Institutes but we believe that the time has come to invite others to share in our vision and mission by way of contribution to resourcing it. We have therefore decided to establish a Development/Fundraising programme, which will be headed up by Mary Waskowiak rsm, which offers people this opportunity.

Mary is a member of the Sisters of the Americas, and has served in many Leadership positions, including that of President of her Institute. She has also served Mercy International Association, both as a Member and a Board Director. Mary is gifted with a wide range of personal gifts and professional expertise and we look forward to her taking up her role in mid August.
