Celebrating the 11/11/11 (MIA)
As we gather around the world to celebrate the 170th anniversary of the death of Catherine McAuley, let us in the words of Sheila Carney rsm hear again some of Catherine’s final messages and, from this distance of 170 years, find the wisdom they hold for us today.
" Reflection on these last words reveals several themes. The first is the concern she had for those around her – beginning with her physician...
She spoke also of the future of the Institute...
Finally, there are those words which reveal the graced and amazing composure and peace of soul that she exhibited in her last hours..."

Mercy Sisters in Australia are concerned about Coal seam gas mining (MGA)
Like many other areas where the Sisters of Mercy are working, coal seam mining is an issue for the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy in Australia.
Some of the major concerns about coal seam gas mining include:
• mining being established on good cropping soil and its impact on production of food
• interruption to the use of farming land
• use of and impact of chemicals upon the land and on the water table
• degradation of and devaluation of farming properties
• how to deal with the significant amount of waste materials (by-products) of the process
• impact on Australia’s Food Production, valuable export industries of beef and wine, Tourism, Thriving Communities– all of which effect human health.

A new audio CD to accompany daily quiet times or an individually directed retreat by Penny Roker rsm and Val Goldsack
We all struggle at times, as the disciples did, to accept the death of Jesus and to allow his new life to transform our ordinariness. We too may feel weary and dejected. Like the disciples of Jesus, the angel's invitation to 'come home' with the Risen Lord is one we all need to hear.
