Today, Sisters of Mercy, through Mercy International Association, use their resources to respond to issues of global poverty demonstrated in the massive displacement of persons worldwide...This vision keeps alive the founding spirit of Catherine among peoples of the world most in need of God's compassion and mercy.

National Award given to Mercy Sisters, Guyana

On 21 st October at the presentation of National Awards by the President of Guyana, Bharrat Jagdeo, the Sisters of Mercy were given the Medal of Service. Sr. Mary Noel Menezes, Professor Emeritus, University of Guyana received the award on behalf of the Sisters.

Since 1894 The Sisters of Mercy have served in the elementary, secondary and tertiary fields of education in Georgetown and in the interior of the country and presently at Mercy Wings Vocational Centre. Mercy service to the people of Guyana continues at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Georgetown, at Mahaica Hospital for patients suffering from Hansen’s disease, and at St. John Bosco Orphanage and Mercy Boys’ Home which offer homes to homeless youth.
