Mercy Associates Ministry in Perris, California (The Congregation)
In response to the economic crisis, our Pastor, Fr. Ed Gomez had a pantry built off the Coleman Parish Center to meet the needs of the people in Perris Valley. The office staff had always served people in need, but now many families were desperate. In the summer of 2009 , Fr. Gomez requested a volunteer to take charge of the Pantry. Everyone heard the plea, nobody came forward. I heard it, too, and saw it as an opportunity for the Mercy Associates to give expression to our Mercy Charism...

Sisters of Mercy Urge President Obama to Stop Deportations (Americas)
Editor: From the letter published on the Institute website:
Dear President Obama:
The Sisters of Mercy of the Americas held their Institute Chapter at Saint Xavier University in Chicago June 19-30, 2011. The Chapter, which is the highest decision-making body of the Sisters of Mercy, convened more than 280 Sisters from the U.S., Central America and South America. As part of the meeting, we held a public witness calling for a stop to deportations, which drew more than 400 people, including representatives from state and local justice organizations...
Enclosed are letters to you signed by participants of the public witness, who are concerned about deportations that are tearing families apart and who are calling on you to stop incarcerating immigrants whose only "crime" is being in this country without proper documentation....

Sisters of Mercy often prepare rituals appropriate to specific themes that might be used for retreats, days of recollection or services and rituals. They often incorporate sections taken from Mercy readings. These may be taken from Catherine’s writings or from other works written by Sisters of Mercy. Those in this selection may be used, in full or in part, in planning a prayer service for a group or used individually. They include suggestions for music, psalms, opening and closing prayers, readings and rituals.
