Sisters of Mercy of the Americas Chapter of Discernment
The Fifth Institute Chapter will open on June 20, 2011, at St. Xavier University in Chicago, Illinois. Preparations for this Chapter began in 2008 with a process to lead members to identify the question for discernment. Members were challenged by the initial question in this process: What is the great work that the Institute Chapter of 2011 is being called to do? Three years later that question has emerged and we invite all Sisters of Mercy to join us in our prayer as we begin.
Rooted in the gospel of Jesus Christ and the charism of mercy that was gifted to Catherine McAuley, we, Sisters of Mercy, conscious of our communion with one another, our extended Mercy family and all creation, yearning to face those areas in our lives needing conversion; desiring to strengthen our solidarity with those suffering in our broken world; and grappling with the complexity of the 21st century,
We ask you, God of Mercy, who is Wisdom and Mystery, where do we need to be led now to come to both a deeper response to the Critical Concerns and a radical embrace of our identity?

Reflection on the Chapter Statement of the Sixth Institute Chapter (Australia)
The Sisters of Mercy of Australia and Papua New Guinea held their Sixth Institute Chapter from September17-25, 2010
In this paper published last week on the Institute website Anne Tormey rsm presents six reflections on the Chapter Statement "Longing for God's Mercy". She writes (in part)
'..The Chapter statement speaks of “ a new moment”, “ a new heart”, “ new eyes”, “ new
possibilities” “ new consciousness”; of “ yearning to relate”, “imagining new possibilities”, “being
impelled to respond”, “ living the gospel”; of” fidelity”, “personal and communal conversion”, “ of
hearts centred on God” , of “ a world longing for God’s mercy”. The passages from the Constitutions
which follow emphasise the praxis of contemplation, conversion, communion, ministry, exercising a
public voice, partnership and collegiality, and remind us of the ecclesial identity of our charism...'
