Opening of new St John's Mercy mobile hospital in Joplin (Americas)
Within one week of the tornado hitting Joplin and St John's Regional Medical Center, a 60-bed mobile hospital offering a full array of services, including emergency, surgery, imaging, lab and inpatient care and able to withstand 100 mile-per-hour winds, the facility opened for patients Sunday, May 29. This facility is named St. John’s Mercy Hospital.
It’s a symbol not only for the rebuilding of Mercy health care services in the southwest Missouri community, but also for the renewal of life and hope in an entire region. And maybe beyond.
Messages to Pat Kenny rsm - Institute Communications or Stephanie Heiland - Institute External Communications Manager, will be forwarded.

Newfoundland Foundation June 3, 1842 (Newfoundland)
On June 3, 1842 a sailing schooner, the Sir Walter Scott, entered the harbour of St. John's, Newfoundland. On the wharf were Bishop Michael Anthony Fleming and many townspeople excited to welcome three Sisters of Mercy who were to establish the first foundation of the Mercy Order in the "new world."
The three women from Baggot Street had left Kingstown Harbour on May 2 for the difficult and dangerous crossing of the north Atlantic. Who were these three courageous Sisters of Mercy? They were Sisters Ursula Frayne, Rose Lynch and Francis Creedon.
A reflection on Mary Francis Creedon has been posted on the Newfoundland Mercy website and is linked to this item.

Matariki -welcoming the Maori new year (Aotearoa New Zealand)
"Nga mihi atawhai - greetings to all in mercy! Matariki starts early this month, on June 4, and with it comes the call to join Maori in celebrating their new year. The appearance of the Pleiades, a cluster of stars in the pre-dawn sky, is the centuries -old signal for Maori that nature’s cycle of growth and life is about to begin once more...
Matariki is also a time for renewing our sense of whakapapa, our ancestry, the DNA we’ve inherited that makes us who we are and endows us with resources for the future. For those ous who live or work in a Mercy world, it’s another chance to give thanks for those brave Mercy pioneers who left their homes and familiar worlds to move to new frontiers and challenges.
As our sisters and their friends in Wellington prepare to celebrate 150 years of Mercy in that city, we remember Mother Bernard Dickson and her two companions, who left the home in Auckland where they had not long settled, to journey once more to the unknown..."

iphone, therefore I am: are gadgets stealing our humanity?
"...Technology pundits, social researchers and even philosophers are now pondering whether society's relentless march towards information overload is stealing rather than augmenting our humanity..."
