Mercy Global Concern launches new resource during CSW
The Commission on the Status of Women at the UN aims to stop the kind of story reported below. We cannot do this alone and need everyone on board.
On March 1, 2011, Mercy International Association will host an event during the Commission to look at Violence against Women and Girls. We will also launch our booklet: Are Women Human? Violence against Women and Girls.
If you want to know more about this subject and how to stop the kind of death reported below, perhaps you might as a starting point consider, reading this booklet and then attend to the suggestions; What YOU can Do on page 16.

GIRL 14 LASHED IN PUBLIC - LATER DIES
MORALITY ISSUE. PUNISHMENT UNDER ISLAMIC SHARIA LAW
Four people including a Muslim cleric have been arrested in Bangladesh in connection with the death of 14-year-old girl who was publicly lashed.The teenager was accused of having an affair with a married man, police say, and the punishment was given under Islamic Sharia law. Hena Begum's family members said a village court consisting of elders and clerics passed the sentence.She was alleged to have had the affair with her cousin and received 80 lashes.

Eucharistic Congress in Dublin, Ireland 2012 (MIA)
The 50th International Eucharistic Congress is to be held in Dublin from 10 – 17 June, 2012.
The opening, as well as many events, will be held at the RDS (Royal Dublin Society) within walking distance of Mercy International. The closing ceremony will be held at Croke Park. For more information. It is envisaged that many people will be seeking accommodation in Dublin at that time.
We offer the following:
Bed & Breakfast with other meals available as required.
Bookings are now open. Bookings will be accepted by email only and must be made on the appropriate form. which is linked to this item. We may be able to arrange nearby accommodation if over-subscribed.
Acceptances will be strictly in order of receipt, with Sisters of Mercy given priority up to Saturday 30 April. Deposits are not required with applications. Invoices will be sent out for the ‘Bed & Breakfast’ component of the booking later in the year and will be payable by 30 September 2011.

Water tanks bring hope for the future (The Congregation)
Two thousand Euro of the money donated on World Food Day 2009 by the various communities of the South Central Province contributed to the constructing of 5 water tanks in five inhabited areas of the Parish of Soledade, Paraiba, North East Brazil. This is a semi-arid region and suffers yearly from the consequences of drought or of extremely low rainfall.

The 150th anniversary of the Sisters of Mercy Brisbane Congregation is being celebrated through a number of exciting new exhibitions in the Mercy Heritage Centre, All Hallows’ Convent, BRisbane.
