The MDG Summit: Governments Re-affirm Their Commitment to Meet Development Goals by 2015
The Millennium Development Goals can be achieved but we need to act now.”
This is just one of the key messages of the High-Level Plenary Meeting of the General Assembly on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), better known as the “MDG Summit,” which started yesterday, Monday, 20 September, at UN Headquarters in New York.
The three-day meeting, which brings together around 140 Heads of State and Government, as well as leaders from civil society organizations, foundations and the private sector, aims to review progress, identify gaps, and commit to a concrete action agenda to advance and attain the MDGs. Although the Summit highlights that progress has been made in the last decade, this progress has been uneven among and within countries, nor has it been sustainable as a result of the various global crises (economic, financial, food) and the more and more visible effects of climate change.

Petition for the Cause of Canonisation
In Mercy E-News no 379 (August 23rd, 2010) Mrs Eileen Malone, Mercy Associate Great Britain, reported on the decision by the 55 Associate Groups, Sisters of Mercy, Youth Mercy Associates; students in Mercy Schools, as well as members of the Church Hierachy to prepare a Petition to support the Cause for the Beatification of Venerable Catherine Mc Auley.
This week's news contains a number of images of Associates and Sisters preparing the three volumes of documents.

The tour of the new web platform is almost complete. This week we feature the Resource section. This is intended to be an online catalogue of items produced by Sisters of Mercy and their associates which convey the spirit of Mercy and the charism of Catherine McAuley.
In most cases, the items can be purchased direct from the artist or producer of the item and the revenues derived from the sale of these items usually support Mercy projects.
There are a wide variety of categories which include: Art Work, Book Marks, Books, Candles, Cards/Notelets, CDs/Audio Tapes, Clothing, DVDs/Videos, Jewellery, Retreats/Courses, and Sculpture.

Buy a bilum and help educate young PNG women (Australia)
Young women involved in the Mercy Education Programme in Wewak, Papua New Guinea (PNG), are again busily making bilums (hand-woven string bags) to sell so they can help fund their education.
The Mercy Education Programme, an initiative of the Sisters of Mercy, PNG, is providing young women who are disadvantaged in some way with opportunities to complete their secondary education

Final Profession of Sr. Marion Ryan
The Church of the Assumption, Booterstown, County Dublin, was the setting for the final profession of Marion Ryan on Saturday, September 18th . Marion, who comes from Tipperary, has been with the Mercy South Central Province since 2003. She works in chaplaincy in Holles Street Hospital and is a member of the Booterstown community.

Where Sisters of Mercy Minister: England (32)
Two foundations were established in England during Catherine McAuley’s lifetime—one in Bermondsey in 1839 and another in Birmingham in 1841. Sisters of Mercy continue to minister in those locations and run heritage centres in both places. In addition, Sisters of Mercy live and minister in approximately 125 other locations throughout England. Those in England belong to Great Britain Federation of Sisters of Mercy, Institute of Our Lady of Mercy (Great Britain), Sisters of Mercy of the Union of Great Britain , Institute of Sisters of Mercy of Australia and the Congregation of Sisters of Mercy (Ireland).

Mercy Center on Aging Mercy Pennsylvania
The Mercy Center on Aging (Erie Pennsylvania) provides a focal point where older persons can come together for a variety of activities, services, and programs. It is intended that all of the community's ethnic, religous, and racial groups will feel welcome and combfortable. At the Center, the older person is encouraged to remain independent and relate to others in a setting that is his/her own.
