Featured Projects

- presenting the projects, which feature stories and actions related to the grass-roots work of the Sisters of Mercy and their co-workers.

The Sisters of Mercy continue to work across the globe in a variety of projects focussed on alleviating human suffering. In this section you can explore a number of these projects and find out how you can support the work of the Mercy. The projects featured currently range over every continent. Each project is presented with a background and overview as well as updates which keep the visitor informed about the progress of the work. The 'take action' section provides an avenue to means of support – advocacy, volunteering, prayer and in some cases financial.

Mercy Global Concern (MGC)

The right column features MGC, the Sisters of Mercy presence at the United Nations, which is the mechanism by which all those associated with the Sisters of Mercy can advocate for the less privileged within a huge network of international bodies (see Sr Deirdre Mullan's article below).

Together these aspects enable the website visitor to experience both the local and global focus of Mercy International Association.

I was delighted to accept the invitation to reflect on this section of  the Mercy International Association’s (MIA) concept/image of Global Mercy Action. In the absence of a Global Action member of the newly reconfigured MIA team, I will be responding in my capacity as the Executive Director of Mercy Global Concern − MGC, the acronym used to describe our Mercy presence at the United Nations, the place of Global Action and where the heartbeat of the world is monitored.

Each year members and friends of the Mercy network are invited to send greetings for Mercy Day to be published on the Mercyworld.org website.

With the website redevelopment, Mercy Day greetings greetings can be posted directly onto the new Mercy site up to and including on Mercy Day.

As the Feast of Our Lady of Mercy approaches, we invite Sisters of Mercy and friends world-wide to join us in praying a novena, to begin on September 16. Most of the novena days coincide with our Sixth Institute Chapter (September 17 – 25) and we would really value your prayerful support.

With gratitude for the many gifts of our Mercy sisterhood, and blessings for our special day.

September 10, 2010 - Sisters of Mercy and partners in ministry are participating in a delegation to El Salvador November 29 to December 6, 2010 commemorating the 30th anniversary of the martyrdom of the four U.S. church women there—and to carry their legacy forward.

The Sisters of Mercy have had a presence in Italy for most of the last three decades. In almost all of these years, there have been two or more Sisters of Mercy studying or teaching in Rome at the Pontifical Gregorian University, Pontifical Institute of Liturgy of Sant’Anselmo, and the former Pontifical Institute Regina Mundi (closed in 2005).

At the current time, Brenda Dolphin rsm (Congregation of Sisters of Mercy, Ireland) is the only Sister of Mercy affiliated with Mercy International Association who lives and ministers in Italy. She serves as the postulator for the Cause of Catherine McAuley’s canonization and is also a faculty member at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

With only five years left until the 2015 deadline to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called on world leaders to attend a summit in New York on 20-22 September to accelerate progress towards the MDGs.

The MGC section of the new Mercyworld.org website provides for site visitors to take an RSS feed without having to clog up their email inbox or repeatedly check the web site for updates. In order to make use of this RSS feed, you just need a simple newsfeed reader program or access to a web site that reads newsfeeds.


There are several ways to view RSS newsfeeds including, specialized news readers, through news tickers that appear on your desktop, portal web sites, and email client plugins.
