Five women from across the country experienced Mercy firsthand as they came together May 22-29 in Buffalo, New York and Eerie, Pennsylvania to participate in the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas’ annual Mercy Challenge.
Sheila Stevenson rsm who helped organize the event, said Mercy Challenge gives pause for reflection for both participants and organizers. "This has been a great educational and experiential experience, one that really caused us to think more and feel more deeply about how Mercy acts in our world,” Sister Sheila said.

Are asylum seekers finding 'freedom from fear'? (Australia)
The quest for 'freedom from fear' is at the heart of a refugee’s flight from danger. But is this the experience of people currently seeking asylum in Australia?

Where Sisters of Mercy Minister: Argentina (20)
Sisters of Mercy minister in thirteen of the thirty-two countries who made it to the World Cup, including the host of the World Cup: South Africa. The FIFA World Cup competition began in 1930, and that year Argentina was the runners up, being beaten by the first World Cup championship team from Uruguay. Argentina are in the quarter finals of this year's World Cup.
The ministry of the Sisters of Mercy in Argentina began in 1856 when four Sisters of Mercy arrived in Buenos Aires having journeyed from Dublin. Their leader was Mother Mary Evangelista Fitzpatrick. Twenty-four years later in 1880, the political situation in Argentina was very volatile and the Sisters of Mercy were not safe to remain there. The Jesuit college on the opposite side of the road from the Mercy property had already been burned down. The twenty four Sisters of Mercy, still led by Mother Mary Evangelista Fitzpatrick, decided that they should move, and that they wanted to stay together. The bishop in Adelaide, Australia, invited them to come to that diocese, and they accepted his invitation. Ten years later in 1890, six Sisters of Mercy returned to Buenos Aires, Argentina, and refounded the ministry there.

Saint Vincent's Honors Ministry of Sisters of Mercy (Americas)
As part of Saint Vincent’s 125th year of celebration and, in honor of the Sisters of Mercy 125-year ministry at Saint Vincent’s, a Tea was held just as Catherine McAuley, the founder of the Sisters of Mercy, would have wanted. McAuley died in 1841 but before she passed away, she made it a point to say, 'Be sure to have a comfortable cup of tea for the Sisters when I am gone.'
On Sunday, June 6th Saint Vincent’s did just that..
Saint Vincent’s Executive Director, Jack Weldon, welcomed the Sisters by saying, 'The Sisters of Mercy continue to impact the lives of children, families and staff at Saint Vincent’s. They witness to Mercy, reverence the dignity of each person, create a spirit of hospitality, and pursue integrity of word and deed in their lives.'...
