Catherine McAuley, foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, used her inheritance in service of the needs of her time. Today, Sisters of Mercy, through Mercy International Association, use their resources to respond to issues of global poverty demonstrated in the massive displacement of persons worldwide...This vision keeps alive the founding spirit of Catherine among peoples of the world most in need of God's compassion and mercy.

Our Lady of Derry (The Congregation)

'Our Lady of Derry' by Sister Aloysius McVeigh, M.F.A. (Yale), Sister of Mercy, Derry

Against a background symbolic of both traditions in Northern Ireland, Mary presents Christ to us as a solution to our community divisions. All lines in the painting, whether from The Guildhall and Derry Walls, or from St Eugene’s Cathedral and Derry’s Bogside, converge on Christ. Mary appeals to all to come closer to Jesus and so to draw nearer to one another. Christ sleeps with peaceful confidence in His Mother’s arms, inviting us by His example to trust in her care and protection.
