International Mother Earth Day (MGC)

Twelve months ago this week, the United Nations General Assembly, in a resolution spearheaded by the Bolivian Government and supported by over 50 Member States, proclaimed April 22nd International Mother Earth Day

The Assembly acknowledged that 'the Earth and its ecosystems are our home', and expressed its conviction that, in order to achieve a just balance among the economic, social and environmental needs of present and future generations, 'it is necessary to promote harmony with nature and the Earth'.

The Address by Bolivia's President Evo Morales Ayma on 22nd April 2009 and the Proclamation by the General Assembly have been posted on the MGC section of the MIA site as Briefing Notes 3 and 4, April 2010.

This week Bolivia is hosting talks on the rights of Mother Earth.
