This week will be the final week for the 'Soup and Substance: Let’s Live Lent' programme. We will be featuring stories and the socio-economic context from Kenya for the theological reflection process.
For those who are able to access the DVD 'How Are You?' by the Mukuru Promotion Centre, this DVD provides an excellent view on the conditions in the Mukuru slums of Nairobi where Sisters of Mercy minister and the ministry of the Mukuru Promotion Centre. See also their website at www.mukuruex.org. 'How Are You?' is the DVD we will be using at Mercy International. Another option for video clips features the response of Mercy to the HIV/AIDS pandemic in the first section of the Mercy and Justice Shall Meet DVD entitled 'From Denial to Healing'.
Suggestions for inspiration from Scripture and our Mercy tradition are provided on Mercy and Justice Shall Meet, and the process is that which was outlined in the feature article for 15 February 2010 Mercy World E-News.

Ministry of Spirituality of the Sisters of Mercy
The Research Paper which was presented by Bonnie Brennan at the MIRC Conference ‘ Being Mercy in the 21st Century’ on the Ministry of Spirituality of the Sisters of Mercy, provides an interesting overview of the Ministry of Spirituality offered by the Sisters of Mercy of Ireland throughout the years, under four headings:
1. The lifetime of Catherine McAuley and her early associates
2. The long period of mainly institutionalised ministry
3. Post Vatican II diversification
4. The present day, more collaborative style of the ministry
This presentation invites us to reflect on the various ways we might ‘ endeavour to fan the flame of mercy into a blaze for the future’. Perhaps we might find a lens offered by Meister Eckhart helpful to our reflection:
We never desire anything so earnestly
as God desires to bring us to Himself,
that we may know Him.

Today, Monday March 22nd, is World Water Day. A Special Report 'The Global Trade In Water' has been posted on the MGC section of the mercyworld.org website. This report discusses the global water crisis and the commodification of the world's water supply.
'Water is a Free Beverage' said Catherine McAuley in 1840. 'Water is a Free Beverage' is a recent publication from MGC.
A sample of the booklet is available in (low res) pdf format here. The booklet can be purchased from MGC for US$1 per copy, plus postage.
This full colour, illustrated little booklet looks at the Water Crisis and the Food Crisis, the bottled water industry and invites each of us to look at our use of Water.
